As a parody meme token that became widespread on Crypto Twitter, Phillip Banks, the creator of the meme, is threatening to issue takedown warnings any profit-related assets or applications that use the character he developed.
Artist Phillip Banks, the creator of the viral “Just a Chill Guy” meme, has announced he will enforce copyright protection on his character which features a humanoid dog embodying nonchalance and emotional detachment. The meme had recently emerged as a memecoin in the crypto space and surged 538% in just two days.

In response, prominent members of the cryptocurrency community made the amusing suggestion that banks take money or tokens sent to a Solana address.
Artist Phillip Banks resisted pressure on the CHILLGUY token, whose origin is unknown, by threatening legal action. It is about 50% down than its peak on Wednesday, and profit-taking has accelerated the decline.
In an effort to maintain the fun, Twitter traders are requesting that Banks provide a Solana address for receiving cash or tokens. Who Banks intends to target is unclear.
With the spoof Solana-based CHILLGUY coin soaring more than 1,000% in a single day and reaching a $500 million market valuation at its high on Wednesday, the meme went viral on Crypto Twitter this week.
The character portrayed by Chillguy is unmoved by the difficulties of life. Brands have expressed interest in El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, which has enhanced the token’s narratives.
why don’t you just let some of the holders send you some profits brother, you could even draft up letter saying you aren’t required to be associated at all
give them your solana address & im certain you could get enough for a relatively large house in less than a day pic.twitter.com/Imp35ALWfp

Phillip Banks’ statement
“Chill guy has been copyrighted. like, legally. I’ll be issuing takedowns on for-profit related things over the next few days,” Banks said on X. “not like brand accounts using him as a trend, that’s kinda something i dont really care about (i do just ask for credit. or xboxes.). mainly unauthorized merchandise and shitcoins.”
What is Chill Guy?
Artist Phillip Banks created the original viral meme character Chill Guy, who is unrelated to the creation of the Solana token. After receiving a ton of direct messages shortly after the token’s introduction, Banks went private and restricted his X exposure. With hopes that the token would continue to function, merchants continued to expand the community in spite of this.
The My New Character meme also known as the ‘chill guy’ was originally made and shared by X / Twitter user @phillipbankss in October 2023 and its an illustrated image of an anthropomorphic dog wearing a snug jumper, red shoes and blue jeans – and we can’t forget the smug smile.
The artist described his work as ‘a chill guy that lowkey doesn’t give a f**k’, and it quickly went viral.
Another original character, Simon’s Cat, approached Chill Guy. However, Simon’s Cat became a stand-alone meme rather than sparking a wave of imitation tokens. Banks stated that while he has nothing against his photos being used for memes, he takes issue with “unauthorized merchandize and sh*tcoins.”
